More Keys to Affiliate Marketing Success

website marketingBeing successful in the world of online affiliate marketing isn’t easy. There isn’t one single trick, idea or suggestion that will exponentially increase your sales. To be successful, you have to implement several different ideas for the best possible results. Here are just three more tips you can use to become a minor success without a ton of work.

1. Use a separate web page for each product you’re trying to sell. Seeing too many products on one page can be overwhelming for potential customers. If everything is lumped together, they can’t focus on just one product and they might click to a different company’s page that’s easier to use. Customer reviews and testimonials are also great assets for any product you’re trying to sell.

2. Offer something free to people who visit your website.
This doesn’t mean that you should give away a car for every 1,000th visitor. But offering a weekly newsletter or a free e-book is a great way to bring more attention to your services without spending a penny. When visiting your website, customers are either going to buy something or they’re not. Increase the chances of their remaining on your website by giving them a reason to stay and come back.

3. Know your target audience and appeal to it.
It’s fairly useless to try to sell wheelchairs if the majority of your website visitors are twenty- or thirty-somethings. By continuously adding relevant and unique content that interests your target audience, you can ensure more people from that group will visit your site. Remember, about one percent of your visitors will buy from your website. The more people you attract, the more likely you’ll have a higher number of sales.

Getting Familiar with Affiliate Marketing Terms

marketing strategyWe’ve talked a lot about affiliate marketing and we’ve even used insider “lingo” in some of the posts. But if you’re new to the concept, you might be lost with some of the language.  Here are a few terms used in “the biz” so you can get up to speed about what people mean when they use them.

Above the Fold: The part of the page that the visitor sees without scrolling the page down. Studies show that the majority of page visitors would rather click to a different page than scroll down. As a result, this is where you want to put your most pertinent information.

Click-Through: What happens when a visitor clickis on a merchant’s link from your website.

Click-Through Ratio or CTR: The percentage of website visitors that click on a merchant’s link from your website. If one out of ten visitors click on a merchant’s link from your page, your click-through rate is ten percent.

Merchant: The person or company selling products or services on your website. This is how you get paid, via a commission that merchants give you because sales result from a type of “referral” from your website.

Pay-Per-Click: A method for paying affiliates by the number of times visitors simply click on a merchant’s link from their pages.  Once the main method for paying affiliates, it’s now starting to fade out because of fraudulent clicks.

We’ll include more helpful terms and explanations like these in the future just so you’re not left in the dark about what we discuss.

Three Tips to Increase Sales with Affiliate Marketing

website marketingHas your affiliate marketing campaign been struggling to make sales? Or has it reached a plateau without any likelihood of increasing any time soon? If so, you might  benefit from the following three tips.

1. Reconsider your product or the way you’re marketing it. Are you enthusiastic about it? Are the customers who visit your website familiar with it? Or is it something completely different? Website visitors are savvy, and they can tell when you don’t believe in the product you’re trying to sell or when you’re unsure about it. Exude confidence to ensure that you sound like a reliable source.

2. Put your sales pitch on the first page. Studies show that the overwhelming majority of first-time website visitors rarely click through to a second page of your website. Most visitors won’t even scroll down past the first half. So putting your sales pitch as close to the top of the first page as possible can increase your affiliate sales. In addition, make sure your pitch is attractive and attention-grabbing. Without that “pull,” nobody will pay attention to it regardless of where you put it.

3. Offer your visitors something free. A regular newsletter about your business is an inexpensive way to follow up with website visitors. That way, you can continue to promote your products and services while staying fresh in the minds of potential clients.

These are just three tips you can use to help increase your affiliate sales. Of course, there are probably hundreds of ideas that will produce results. Stay tuned to future posts for more suggestions.

Buttons or Links: Which One Brings More Traffic?

website marketingIf you have an affiliate marketing website, you want to keep visitors browsing your site as long as possible. But there are so many different methods, theories, ideas and ways to do that. The Aweber Company can help you achieve your goals.

Recently, the company posted a blog about split testing. A couple of guys in the company debated which feature causes visitors to explore a site more–buttons or text links.

Here’s what they did:

On their blogs, they created two versions of the “call to action.” This basically means that the first part of the blog would appear on one page and then either a text link or a button with the words “read more” would take the visitor to the rest of the blog. They used the text link on half the blogs and the button on the other half. Everything else was identical.

Within two weeks of starting the test, it was fairly obvious that the button worked much better in getting people to “click through” to read more.

But after running the test for several months, they found out that the text link started gaining more popularity and even beat the button about 53 percent of the time. They decided that the button’s novelty made it more popular in the beginning, but visitors eventually became desensitized to it.

The moral of this story? The experts at Aweber have dedicated themselves to finding the reasons and methods for making your website succeed. Contact them today and start enjoying more success tomorrow!

Increasing Sales through Visitor Follow-Ups

affiliate linkingIn the world of affiliate marketing, holding on to every potential client you can is the name of the game But when  Internet users visit your website, they are either going to remember it or forget about it.

Depending on the appearance and functionality of your page, there is a 50/50 chance of either one of those events happening. But there are ways you can make those visitors remember you and come back to you when they need your services or product. One of the best ways to do that is with an Autorepsonder program. Here are some reasons why contacting visitors is so important:

• First-time visitors to any website rarely buy anything. They tend to “shop around” at first before settling on the websites they decide to patronize.

• On a first visit, potential customers typically don’t know enough about your product or service to purchase from you.

• Some visitors might not have enough money to purchase your product or service at that time. But they are looking for prices and information.

• Visitors haven’t made their decisions yet.

• Your company still needs to build credibility and trust with potential customers before they will purchase from you.

With all of these reasons, a follow-up e-mail can cement your company’s name into their memories. With AWeber, you can put a feature on your website that allows visitors to enter their e-mail addresses.  AWeberwill also set up an autoresponder so those potential clients get a second and lasting opportunity to remember your website.

Pick Your Domain Name Before It’s Too Late

affiliate marketingGlaciers and polar bears aren’t the only things that have been disappearing in the world lately. Some Internet analysts predict that domain names will be scarce in the near future. And that future could be the next year or two.

With increased online communication and commerce, it’s getting more difficult to find a name to identify your affiliate marketing campaign, business or company in the online community. And even if you are lucky enough to get your ideal “dream name,” it’s likely going to be very similar to one that’s already out there. Analysts feel this will inevitably lead to “every possible private and brand name being used up.”

One indication that this could happen soon is that registrations for new domain names are down lately. With the popular social networking website Myspace, it takes users an average of 10 percent longer to find a unique name with each passing month. This vitually forced the highly-paid naming teams at Nokia to reuse the name “Prism” for one of the company’s later models.

The global naming crisis is also hitting the pharmaceutical industry. Marketers in this $700-billion field are struggling to find new names for medications. Because they use certain letters to evoke specific connotations (such as “v” to connote virility and “x” to conjure up the idea of super science), it’s even more difficult to think of new names.

But if you want to begin or increase your online presence, the staff at Bluehost.com will help you find a unique name before hosting your site. With some help, you’ll be more likely to find something that describes your products and services wonderfully.

Britannica Does Affiliate Marketing, Too

affiliate linkingThis story intrigued me for two reasons.  The first reason is that I’m reading a book called The Know-It-All. It’s about one man’s quest to become the smartest person in the world by reading through the entire Encyclopedia Britannica. That’s 44 million words, dozens of volumes and tens of thousands of pages.

The second reason is that I didn’t even know that the Encyclopedia Britannica participated in affiliate marketing. But this “innovator of online research and education” not only participates in the affiliate program but also wants to expand. EB has hired NETexponent, a leading online marketing agency, to increase subscriptions and order volume through affiliate links and recruitment.

Currently, Britannica has a successful affiliate program through Performics technology. The plan for the  new expansion is to launch a program in Commission Junction. And with the dual platforms, affiliates will be able to choose their preferred programs for offering links to the website.

Britannica affiliates currently receive commissions starting at 10 percent for subscription leads and purchases. If a buyer clicks on an affiliate’s link and purchases a product within 30 days of the initial referral, the affiliate receives the commission.

Located in New York, NETexponent builds partnerships between merchants and advertisers. The company, founded in 2001, bases its business on direct marketing. The goal of NETexponent is to be the most ethical and efficient marketing agency in the nation. Through its partnership with Britannica, NETexponent hopes to use its relationships to promote the encyclopedia and the other learning services that EB provides.

New Affiliate Tool Makes Debut

website marketingLast month, a summit held in Las Vegas focused on affiliate marketing and new tools for affiliates. Did you even know there was such a thing?

The summit included the debut of a new tool to increase your success in affiliate marketing, called Affiliate Link Encoder (ALE). The exciting thing about this tool is that it adds affiliate links to your website or online business automatically.

Without this tool, affiliates need to change the links on their websites one by one, a long and time-consuming process. But Avant Link’s new technology automatically changes the links to affiliate links through a small piece of javascript.
Here’s how it works:

• Choose a product sold on Avant Link’s network
• Sign up as an affiliate of the product’s company
• Receive a unique URL from the merchant to identify your website as the referring website
• Write a review of the product
• Create a link on your website to the merchant selling the product
• Reap a percentage of the money when somebody buys that product after clicking on your link

The only potential problem with the new affiliate marketing tool is that Google tends to discriminate against paid links. This means that you could hurt your website’s ranking if you use them. But, according to an official with Avant Link, the company has cleverly masked the technology  so the Google spiders won’t easily notice it.  But the company still does not guarantee that you ranking will remain the same.

Basically, the decision is yours. Would you rather sacrifice your place in the Google rankings in hopes of making more from affiliate links? Or is it more worthwhile to keep your ranking and increase page views?

Three Main Models of Online Businesses

affiliate marketingBeginning your online business with affiliate opportunities can be a great way to jumpstart your earnings and get excited about your income. But have you chosen a business model to follow yet? If not, here are the three main model categories which online businesses fall into to help you choose the one tha best fits your goals.

1. Marketing your own products and services: This one is fairly simple. If you have a service or a product that you are selling yourself, this would be your chosen business model. That means you have the rights to sell the product or service and you are basically on your own.

2. Marketing someone else’s products and services, or affiliate marketing: This is a much simpler business venture because you are merely selling something that somebody else creates, markets and maintains. All you have to do is provide a link to the other company’s website and become one of its affiliates. You get a commission (sometimes up to 70 percent) on the sales that come through your online business or website.

3. Creating advertising websites: With this business model, you need knowledge of keywords, niches and Google Adsense. By knowing about these concepts, you can create a market that brings in a great deal of income through your website. You can even let other businesses advertise on your website for a fee.

Choosing a business model is one of the first decisions to make when creating your website. It gives you a clearer idea of what you want to achieve as well as a better means to achieve those online business goals.
